What Students Are Saying
In nursing school, Lisa was my professor for Pharmacology and clinical instructor for my Med/Surg II clinical in 2019. Five years later, I still think about Lisa's passion for teaching and dedication to her students, truly setting her apart from other professors. From her very first class, it was clear that Lisa possessed an extraordinary ability to engage and inspire. In the clinical setting, she provided a safe and reputable learning experience which was greatly enhanced under her guidance.
Beyond the classroom, Lisa is genuinely invested in students' success. She offered valuable career guidance and mentorship, which I found incredibly beneficial as I began to navigate my academic and professional journey. “Nursing school and clinical were difficult, but having Lisa as a preceptor made the learning process easier and more enjoyable. Lisa was undeniably one of the most hands on and determined preceptors during my time in school. She would ask us what we were learning that week and find something relatable to the content to show us in person. Learning from someone who had plans to advance their education gave me the desire to push myself forward and made me feel more confident in myself. Lisa is the definition of what a nurse should be and how they should approach the profession. I am proud to know her and to have learned from her. #bestpreceptorever” — Nichole E. Not only does she have a diverse background, having held numerous positions across a myriad of specialties, but she is also innately gifted at explaining concepts and teaching hands-on skills. "I can’t say enough good things about Professor Lisa Harrelson. She is so knowledgeable and smart! She was my pharmacology professor and my Med Surg clinical preceptor! She made a complex subject like pharmacology approachable and engaging, breaking down complicated concepts into small sections, which helped me understand the concept better. Professor Harrelson used real-life examples that connected theory to clinical practice, which has been incredibly helpful for applying what I learned to patient care.
The most valuable part of being her student is that she genuinely cares about her students’ success, always being available for questions and offering helpful study resources and feedback. I especially appreciated how she encouraged critical thinking and provided clear explanations for each drug class and its application in nursing practice. This class was challenging but rewarding, and I feel so much more confident in my pharmacology knowledge because of her dedication and teaching style!" — Lina A.
